THE LEGACY OF MAPO HALL
Standing prominently on Mapo Hill, Mapo Hall is one of the defining landmarks of Ibadan and a longstanding symbol of the city's civic and architectural heritage.
Construction of the hall began in 1925, with the building officially opened in 1929. It was designed by British engineer Robert Taffy Jones, whose work gave the structure its distinctive classical architectural character.
Its imposing columns, symmetry and elevated position have made Mapo Hall an unmistakable part of Ibadan's skyline and identity.
The building has also played an important role in the city's civic and cultural life over the decades, making it much more than an architectural landmark.
