THE STORY OF BOWER’S TOWER
Standing on Oke-Are Hill, Bower’s Tower is one of Ibadan’s most recognizable landmarks and offers a commanding view of the city.
The tower was unveiled in 1936 and was named after Captain Robert Lister Bower, a British colonial administrator who served as the first Resident and Travelling Commissioner in Yorubaland.
Designed by British architect Taffy Jones, the structure is also known locally as “Layipo”, a Yoruba reference to its spiral staircase.
Visitors climb approximately 47 spiral steps inside the tower to reach the viewing platform.
The Bower’s Tower Drop turns these details into wearable storytelling — a visual reminder of the landmarks that have helped shape Ibadan's identity.
